In a week or so it will be time for LDR's end-of-year show, which attempts to cram in as much music as possible from 2009 that I enjoyed over the course of the year. Sure to make the playlist will be a track from Yo La Tengo's disc, which provided us with the second tune in this program's opening set. It has something of a Motown feel, especially the Four Tops, and it was followed by a Neil Young track that seems clearly to be influenced by '60s soul sounds. Elvis Costello & the Attractions offered one from an early disc that was also indebted to that music, and from there Nick Lowe, who produced the Elvis Costello disc, contributed a tune with horns that conjured up the '60s music of Jamaica. A very early one from that time by the Wailers was followed by Bebel Gilbeto from her recent release, and the title of that tune brought to mind Miriam Makeba's hit, also from the '60s. Finally, we heard from the Dap-KIngs on their own (without Sharon Jones) supplying a rhythmically enticing instrumental to finish up.

The remainder of the program was filled with 13 tunes apiece from the years 2007 and 2008, and that brings us up to the present for LDR's look back at the decade in music. Next up is the Holiday Extravaganza, and then the aforementioned 2009 review, which will be the last show of this year. The turn of the new year means that Lucky Dog Radio will embark on its tenth year of broadcasting freeform music radio over the Internet, so a big thank you goes out to all of our listeners, because without you there wouldn't be any reason to continue on.

Here's another one from the Four Tops
