The new Ike Reilly release continues to be at the top of my listening pile, and something I noticed early on in the tune we heard here was the piano, which is quite similar to that found on the Elvis Costello & the Attractions song that opened the program. The Reilly track also brought to mind an old Bruce Springsteen nugget that took more than 25 years to be officially released, and that was followed by the Steve Van Zandt-produced title tune from the most recent disc by Norway's Cocktail Slippers. Another Scandinavian band, Sweden's Concretes, offered up a good dose of pop energy propelled by their horn section, and that led to one from Julian Plenti that also features some prominent horns. The Januaries followed with a tune featuring a single trumpet that hits upon a tropical feel at times, which is how we ended up with one from Bebel Gilberto to finish up.
At this point we once again turned to the ongoing review of the decade in music that's been part of the programing here at LDR for the past several weeks. In order to reach the goal of listening to 13 tunes from the years 2000 to 2008 by the time we reach the annual Holiday Extravaganza, it was again necessary to double up—so this time we heard a baker's dozen from 2004 and another 13 from 2005. For more info on the limited guidelines I'm using to choose the tracks we're hearing, you need to go back to the post-show notes from Program 639. And for those who might be finding all of this somewhat tedious, keep in mind that we're well past the halfway point and into the stretch, so hang in there.
Here's another one from Elvis Costello & the Attractions
