Ike Reilly writes songs that combine the personal and the political, and adds a healthy dose of social commentary and humor. Once upon a time he would have been full-blown rock star because of his talent, back when that label wasn't achieved almost solely through marketing and hype, but those days are long gone and we should be happy that he's able to put his work out there for those of us interested enough to go looking for it. After opening with one from his new disc, we heard Jenny Lewis and Elvis Perkins with a couple of tunes that lean much more to the personal, although in a somewhat more obscure manner than the tracks from the Wallflowers and Oasis that closed out this set.

The remainder of this program was devoted to the years 2001 and 2002, as we continue to look back at the past decade in music before all the sands run out. The parameters I've concocted for this can be found in the notes that accompany Program #639, and they're not extensive at all so it might be worth the extra couple of minutes of your time if you're curious about the details. So far I've been enjoying the results (Yeah, I listen to my own show, but it makes sense if you think about it—after all, I only play music I like.) and I hope you have as well.
